It was the Alex Hughes show last week with the top scorer bagging all four goals in the 4–1 win including two penalties leaving Lichfield stunned. Haughmond were the latest side to feel Alport’s wrath and it was Kieran Lazenby who took the plaudits this time against their nearest rivals. The Reds should have been out of sight before the visitors halved the deficit through substitute Harvey Lewis to make it a nervy last 15 minutes. Although Haughmond rattled the frame of the goal twice it was only after their goal that they caused Luke Goddard’s men any kind of problems. It was Lazenby who opened the scoring on 37 minutes with a tap in after a well worked build-up from his teammates. And then in the second half Lazenby finished brilliantly after being set up by Dylan Bath. He smashed the ball into the top right-hand corner of the goal to score what proved to be the decisive moment of the match. Alport were guilty of missing chance after chance in front of goal with several one-on-ones with the goalkeeper. Despite that Goddard was pleased with his side’s performance overall: “I knew we were in for a tough match especially as we had one or two of their ex-players. But we were missing the likes of Skelts, Ivan and Jud so it was a good squad performance and a win that we fully deserved.”
