LICHFIELD CITY MATCH REPORT

Hughesy hits 4 for the 2nd time this season⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️

It was all about Alex Hughes at Lichfield as Alport romped to a 4–1 victory on an artificial surface. Hughes grabbed all four as the hosts were dominated by a Whitchurch side that looked like a really classy outfit.

Just past the quarter hour mark the Reds went in front when Alex was tripped in the box and from the resultant penalty the striker sent the goalkeeper the wrong way to give Alport a deserved advantage. The away side removed on top for the bulk of the half but were undone two minutes into added on time. A probing cross was headed goalwards and although Ellis made the initial save, the ball rebounded off the striker and dropped into the goal to bring Lichfield into a game that should have been over by the half time whistle.

Three minutes into the second period and we regained the lead when Jacob Farleigh put the local boy in behind the defence and you can guess the rest. 15 minutes later and it was the matchball for our top goalscorer. Smart link up play between the Alport Messi and Alex and when Hughesy was again fouled inside the 18 yard box it left the match official with a simple decision to make. Spot kick number two and the same result to put us 3–1 ahead before an hour had been played. This is a smart side when hitting top form and the display at highflying Lichfield was a perfect example of that. With the last 10 minutes fast approaching Ivan once again fed the predator and with the aid of a deflection, Alex deserved to take the plaudits once again. 23 goals now for the season which is some record for Hughesy and his next target will be to reach thirty. 4–1 then, which was impressive enough but five would have been better although were we being a bit greedy? Not on your life although skipper Sean Griffiths really should have rubbed salt into the gaping wounds of the shellshocked home side but only he knows how he contrived to miss what looked to be a shoe in fifth.

So once more the Reds came out victorious on a 4G playing surface. With an almost exemplary record for Luke and his boys it remains only Avro that have inflicted a defeat for the Yockings Park side! Any neutral attending the game would have gone away purring at the performance and to a man the away team ought to have been hugely proud of a magnificent team display.
