Whitchurch Alport 2 Shifnal Town 0
Two goals from man of the match Jimmy Garlick were enough to see off the challenge of last season’s nemesis in the shape of Shifnal Town. The visitors took the title from Alport of Shropshire title winners as well as the TJ Vickers Cup comfortably at the New Bucks Head Stadium. But at the KMJ Mortgages Stadium it was a different story as the Reds made it 12 wins and a draw from the last 14. Alport were up and running when John Brown could only parry the ball from Alex Hughes’ strike right into the path of Garlick who had the simplest of tasks and netted unchallenged from inside the 6 yard box after just 14 minutes. Luke Goddard’s were in control for the first half of the game and after just two minutes of the second half Garlick made it two nil converting past Brown who again might have gone better although to be fair to him he may have been unsighted.
Whitchurch managed the game well after that and Jacob Farleigh almost made it three into added on time having been on the pitch for only three minutes. The substitute rattled the left-hand post and that was that. Three more points for Alport who seemed to have found their form and look a very difficult team to beat.
