Stourport Swifts match report

Alport Media6 Feb 2022 - 19:15

Media manager Martin Wild reports back on our 2-1 win over Stourport Swifts

A goal in each half from Kieran Lazenby and Jimmy Garlick were enough to secure another three points against Stourport Swifts at the KMJ Mortgages Stadium. But for the second home game running Alport made heavy weather of a match that should have seen them well in front before having to ensure a nervous last 10 minutes.

On a sticky Yockings Park pitch the hosts should have taken the lead after just three minutes when Lazenby found himself clear on goal with a one on one situation with Dominic Richards in the visitors goal. He looked odds-on to score but somehow dragged his shot wide of the target. But 15 minutes later he atoned for his miss when at the second attempt he managed to beat Richards after the keeper had fumbled a cross from Alex Hughes. The Reds went into the half-time break a goal to the good and worth for value for their lead. In the early throes of the second 45 it was pretty much as you were with Alport in the ascendancy and just before the hour they scored an exquisite second with Garlick the man on target. Hughesy’s brilliant reverse through ball into Jimmy saw the number 10 take one touch before superbly chipping the ball over Richards who had dived too early and the hosts had something of a cushion with half an hour left. Garlick should have made it three when once again faced with just Richards to beat he dragged his shot narrowly wide of the far post. Sean Griffiths was again guilty of putting Stourport to bed but once more failed to hit the target. With just five minutes left to play the away team put themselves right back into contention when out of nowhere Connor Gater reduced the arrears with a cracking shot that flew past Ellis Allen who had dealt brilliantly with a number of corner kicks throughout. Stourport laid siege to the Alport goal particularly in the last 10 minutes but we held on for the victory. All eyes are now firmly on the looming cup tie away at Coventry next weekend when Alport will be backed by more than a hundred travelling fans.
