Alex Hughes continued his goalscoring finesse before Jud Ellis doubled the lead later in a one-sided first half. In the second period, the Reds dominated almost from the outset with substitutes Elikem Amenku and Celson Segunda putting the icing on top of the cake after a fantastic performance from the home side.
Only 11 minutes were on the clock before Hughes beat keeper Jack Tolley with a crisp left-foot shot into the corner and Dan Skelton thought he had increased the lead midway through the half, but a linesman’s flag soon curtailed the celebrations. But Alport weren’t to be denied and Ellis scored the simplest of goals. He had time to run a bath, have a shave, run downstairs and have a cooked breakfast and still have had enough left to tap in from half an inch or so!
After the interval, Uttoxeter remained under the cosh and Hughes rattled a post on the hour to keep the score at 2–0. Manager Luke Goddard made a couple of changes in the last 20 minutes and Amenku had barely had time to break a sweat before finishing well from a pinpoint Hughes pass into the danger zone. With just five minutes to play came the best goal of the afternoon and it was Segunda who provided the final dagger into the tiring limbs of the visitors. Celson made a step over that would have made Cristiano Ronaldo proud leaving the defender closer to Uttoxeter than Yockings. Once past the mesmerised right back he drilled his shot into the far corner to rub the final salt into the wounds of a well-beaten Town side.
