Captain Sean Griffiths doubled his tally for the season with a fine opening goal and Ivan Urvantev made it 2–0 with a goal of the season contender shortly after the interval.
The Reds started on the front foot and it came as no surprise when Griffiths got on the end of a superb cross from namesake Jack, to volley past the AFC keeper, Hayward on 11 minutes. A second goal almost arrived when Jack Berman sent in a delicious ball which was met by top scorer Alex Hughes only for Hayward to save well and keep his side in it.
The Wulfrunians stopper was helpless to stop Alport from increasing their lead after 51 minutes though when the former Moldavian youth international let fly from fully 30 yards out which dipped over Hayward and into the far corner. It was a goal of real quality and there was no way back for the visitors despite their best efforts which included a 10-minute purple patch as the whistle got ever closer. In fairness, Ellis Allen was rarely called upon to protect his goal with Arron Simms imperious at center back. And Alport would have made it three into added on time but Jud Ellis’ shot from wide on the left cannoned back off an upright with Hayward routed to the spot.
It was a workmanlike performance from the Red Men who recorded just a second league win at the KMJ. More importantly, it kept an impressive run of five victories and one draw from their last six matches to keep confidence levels high throughout the dressing room.
