Whitchurch Alport fell to their first defeat in 8 matches on Boxing Day, with a 5-0 defeat away to Shropshire neighbours Shifnal Town.

Manager Adam Shillcock was forced into a couple of changes to the starting line up from Saturday's win over Northwich Victoria with top scorer Alex Hughes missing the match through injury, whilst George Carpenter was only fit enough to make the bench, so in came Lyndon Campbell and Ben Guest, with Callum Knowles keeping his spot in the starting XI.

It was a case of missed chances for the Whites in the opening period as chances weren't taken by Knowles, Tom , Ben Guest and Harry Bower. This would come back to haunt the team, when Shifnal took the lead on 19 minutes with their first attempt on goal through Reuben Lal, who was given too much free time and space to head past Jack Sheward from a Town corner. The lack of good fortune was even more evident less than 2 minutes into the 2nd half when Nelson grabbed his 2nd of the game, after a Cuff shot fell fortunately at the feet of Nelson, who scored past a helpless Sheward. Worse was to come when Aaron Simms was shown a straight Red card for an off the ball altercation with a Town attacker.

Substitutions were made by Shillcock to try and balance the team, but the extra space and player in midfield caught up with the Whites, who conceded goals Cuff(2) late on to make Boxing Day a miserable one for the travelling supporters who'd made the journey in their numbers today.
