Match report

AFC Blackpool 1 Alport 4

The Alport juggernaut rolls on after a fourth successive win at the seaside over 10 man AFC Blackpool. The Tangerines went in front but found themselves a man light, and despite the away side struggling – particularly in the opening 45 minutes – they went on to win comfortably having powered their way through the final stages of the match.

Martin Baird powered home an unstoppable header from close range in the 13th minute to stun the league leaders and Alport couldn’t seem to find any kind of fluidity to their play. But the game turned a little over 5 minutes after the goal when Danny Mottram went in late on Chris Jackson, and he picked up a straight red to hand Alport the advantage. Blackpool sat a little deeper but had a chance to double their lead with Alport still misfiring. Aaron Fleming let one fly and debutant keeper Cam Phelps made the save to spare any Whitchurch blushes.

When the equaliser did eventually arrive it came with a huge slice of good fortune. Ben Mills might have wanted to claim the goal to boost his own tally but Callum Kirkland made a fine stop from the low free-kick to divert the ball onto the post. Luckily for the Reds, it rebounded onto the keepers head and went back across the line. Si Everall had a great chance to score soon after but saw his lob over Kirkland drift aimlessly wide, whilst at the other end, Billy McKenna dragged another clear cut opportunity past the upright.

Phelps made two terrific stops in the early throes of the second period to thwart a home side still very much in the game, with the one from Baird a stand-out. But once Luke Walley had forced the ball over the line at the third attempt, there would be no way back for a plucky Pool side with a third coming 10 minutes later. Superb work on the by-line from Everall saw him lift the ball up to the far post for sub Mike Blundell to nod in his first of the season to end the contest with 15 minutes to go. And the icing on the cake came when Mills lashed home a fourth late on to maintain his record of having scored in every game.
