Match report

Alport 3 Stockport Town 0

On a blustery day at Yockings Park, Alport blew away the challenge of fancied Stockport Town with three superb goals to maintain their 100% start to the season. Once again, the front players proved too hot to handle with skipper Si Everall grabbing a brace either side of a stunning volley from top scorer, Ben Mills. It’s five in three now for the summer capture who is fast becoming a fans favourite. And the partnership with Everall is already paying dividends with eight of Alport’s ten goals having come from the front pairing.

Whitchurch almost went in front after just eight minutes when Mike Blundell’s 25 yard free kick took a ride on the wind and clattered the Town bar. But they did take the lead 10 minutes later and Blundell was at the heart of it. A brilliant pass put Everall away and as he strode into the box, he fired across keeper Dylan Forth to find the far corner. Soon after there was a carbon copy move and Everall’s shot went past Forth again - only for Dharius Waldron to make a stunning goal line clearance. Chances after that were largely at a premium, although Andy Fitzgerald came close when stand-in centre back Elliot Ledwards had to head clear late in the first half.

Mills had a chance to double the lead five minutes into the second period when Everall slipped him clean through. But as the striker tried to work the ball onto his right foot, a defender came around to clear at the vital moment. Just past the hour though, Mills kept up his record of scoring in every game. Stevie McNichol’s free kick found Mills on the left hand edge of the area and he smashed a superb right foot volley across goal and into the far corner. It soon got worse for Town as they went down to 10 men after a moment of stupidity from Matt Clarke. Louis James was guilty of a poor tackle to concede a free kick in a dangerous area and as the two tangled, Clarke retaliated sparking a 19 man coming together in the bottom corner. The linesman had a great view and Clarke picked up a straight red with Mills and Darryl Grant seeing yellow for their part in the melee.

With the extra man Alport turned the screw as the game wore on, and an inevitable third came when James played Dean Twigg into space down the left. Twigg’s first time devilish cross was food and drink for Everall who couldn’t miss from 6 yards out. It could have been four when impressive substitute Kieran Smith tested Forth who had to go full stretch to turn the ball away, but in fairness,  that would have been cruel on Town.
