Luke Goddard took his side to Blacon High School last night to play Flint Town United after their game was postponed after just five minutes on Saturday after a nasty leg break to their captain Tom Dixon. The game started with Flint enjoying much of the possession for the opening twenty minutes. It was however Alport who should’ve taken the lead when Hughes forced an error from the Flint defender to go clear with just the goalkeeper to beat, his effort somehow went wide of the goal! At this point the game was ultra competitive with both sides very much committed as they looked for the opening goal. Ashbrook, Everall, Langos & Hughes looked a huge threat everytime they ventured forward on the break but the final touch lacked the quality to notch the first goal. At the other end Flint kept the Alport defence awake with numerous threats in behind creating a number of set pieces where they were a danger. On the 36th minute skipper Everall was dragged to the ground on the edge of the box. Sanders stepped up and courtesy of a deflection in the wall it found its way past the hosts goalkeeper! HT 0-1 Numerous changes were made at half time by Alport and throughout the second half. This didn’t effect the Shropshire side increasing things however as they began to dominate possession playing some excellent football. Then came the goal of the game on 60 minutes moving the ball from right to left Pickerill played a superb give and go with Hughes before smashing the ball in the top corner from 16yds with the outside of his left foot! Forward Hughes shortly later then gained a goal his performance deserved after good link up play down the right he slotted into the bottom right hand corner to give Alport a three goal advantage. On the return Flint went very close from their long throw routine and also a couple of set pieces however young goalkeeper Cameron Phelps in the second half carried on Dave Parton’s record in the first half and a second consecutive clean sheet was earned in a good workout for the red men. FT 0-3 Manager Luke Goddard’s thoughts “A different challenge to what we faced at the weekend but one that was hugely beneficial in the end. We grew throughout the game and the things we have been working on in terms of mentality and structure are starting to come to fruition but we still have plenty to work on. The squad is bonding nicely with the new players and I’ve been impressed with the attitudes at this stage. We move onto training tomorrow”
