Match report

Whitchurch Alport extended their much improved form with a six goal demolishing of Abbey Hey as goals from Alex Hughes (2), Nicky Porter (2), Ricky Bridge and Simon Everall gave Alport their biggest win of the season.

Nick Marley, Arron Johns, Porter and Bridge all returned to the starting line-up as Luke Goddard continued his squad rotation policy looking to make it five games unbeaten. The opening exchanges were fairly even with both sides looking to get the ball down and play. On the 22nd minute the game’s first goal arrived which kick started the pattern for the rest of the match. A Tim Sanders corner wasn’t dealt with by the Abbey Hey goalkeeper and Hughes was in the right place to tap home from 3 yards. A clinical Alport now set upon finishing the game, however it wasn’t before a let off at the other end as the home side were denied an equaliser when the linesman put his flag up for an offside to maintain the one goal lead for the visitors. The second goal arrived ten minutes before half time, a pass from Darren Campion found Porter 20 yards out and his powerful strike found the bottom corner. It was that man Porter who made it three before the interval, again Campion delivered a perfect ball into Hughes who linked up superbly well with Porter who finished smartly to give the Reds a three goal cushion. HT 0-3

Into the second half and the referee hardly had time to put his whistle back in his pocket when good play down the right hand side led to a great cross from Porter and Bridge volleyed home for his first Alport goal. Skipper Everall was introduced as a substitute and his workrate forced the defence into a mistake where Hughes benefitted sublimely with a 20 yard lob with his left foot to make it five. It was a dominant, strong display from the Reds who finished the game off with 9 minutes remaining as a searching ball from O`Connor found Everall over the Abbey Hey defence and after jinking past a recovering defender he slotted into the far corner to complete the scoreline. FT 0-6

A ruthless performance in both boxes for Alport as they head into a midweek Ethleston Cup final looking to win the historic cup for the first time since 2009.
