U19s kick start their campaign

Alport Media25 Sep 2022 - 13:52

Come down to support the future with the Alport U19s

Tomorrow night our newly formed Whitchurch Alport U19s begin their new journey in a midweek floodlit league! With players such as Joe Flory, Ollie Pope, Jack Sheward, Joe Hunter and a few more already part of Luke Goddard’s first team the pathway is live and kicking for local talent to flourish in the pyramid system at WAFC.

Joint manager Simon Winstone added "After what seems a long and disjointed pre season, the management team, and more so the players, cannot wait to start our league season on Monday night against Walsall wood.

After our success last season as a u18s team we have took the plunge and entered ourselves into the MJPL u19 midweek development league that will provide the lads with tougher challenge, whilst also making them more prepared for first team football.

As for the squad it is mainly unchanged with all our regular starters from last season resigning except for goalkeeper Elliot Hall who leaves for university and has been replaced by Jack Sheward formerly of telford utd who has already turned out for the first team this season. A few other fresh faces and a couple of new first team members who are eligible to play for us will ensure competition for places all over the pitch.

We were blown away by the support we received last season which culminated in that memorable night at the bucks head when we lifted the county cup and would be delighted if everyone could turn out once again this season to support the lads in what will be a more difficult challenge.

Whitchurch Alport as a club are making huge strides and putting lots of effort into nurturing home grown talent to play in the first team, and whilst we of course aim to be competitive as a team our priority remains to produce players for our first team.

On behalf of myself, rob, Andy and the players we thank you all in advance for your encouragement and support"

We encourage to get behind the team in what will be a huge change from last years journey but sure to be another enjoyable one! To ensure increased costs in officials for the league and costs of floodlights we have this year had to add a small entry fee at the gate to help towards such costs.
