Media Manager looks back on our 3-2 league defeat to Stone Old Alleynians

Alport manager, Luke Goddard, admits that his side need to defend better and need to show desire in their upcoming matches. The Reds conceded three goals at Stone Old Alleynians on Saturday having dragged themselves level after the home side went into a two-goal lead in quick succession during a first half goal fest. Striker, Alex Hughes, scored goals 30 and 31 for the season and the Alport chief expected more from his team: “We let in two really poor goals and they were down to individual errors,” he said. “Ellis Allen (goalkeeper) knows he was at fault for them both and that can happen sometimes but you can’t keep coming from behind as teams punish our mistakes. They (Stone) were two up without really creating anything so we were left with a mountain to climb. Obviously, we have Alex who is beginning to be a real goal threat and a huge asset for us and another brace for him to add to last week’s hat-trick against Wolverhampton.” The Reds made a long midweek trip to Stourport Swifts last night (Tuesday) and Goddard knows that his squad need to get used to some of the facilities at other clubs: “We have been playing on some really bad pitches and that was the worst of the season so far on Saturday. But such is the move across to the Midlands League and we simply need to adapt. I told the players after the game that it was down to them and to show the desire needed to win football matches. If they are happy with a mid-table finish then so be it but we should be looking at a top six finish. The Vase is over now so we can’t keep licking our wounds and thinking about what might have been. We are away again at the weekend when we go to Shifnal Town and these games are difficult to win because we’ve seen that anyone can beat anyone in this league on their day.”
