Goddard’s men kick off pre season with a win

Our first pre season game of the 2022/23 took us to Cymru North Division side Conwy Borough, where we came away from sunny Wales with a deserved 3-1 win

Manager Luke Goddard took a squad of 20 and the lads got some well needed game time minutes. The game was only five minutes in when the Blues took the lead from a close range effort by last seasons Midland Premier Division leading scorer Alex Hughes after great work by Jordan Evans down the left.

Evans was in the thick of the action again in the 20th minute, when his corner was met by the head of Aaron Simms, but the ball cannoned off the crossbar which the Conwy defence cleared which resulted in another corner. This time, from another Evans corner, the ball fell kindly to Ryan Allcock, who made no mistake from 10 yards out. A 3rd goal for the Blues soon followed from the unlikely source of Lyndon Campbell with a diving header

The hosts pulled a goal back on 65 minutes. After Kielahn Annikey was adjudged to have fouled the Borough forward, Ash Rawlins saved the spot kick but was unable to keep the rebound out

We host Chester FC this coming Tuesday(5th July) with a 7:45pm kick off at the KMJ stadium, who will offer a sterner test for the Reds and an opportunity for Luke Goddard to assess his players a little more and to also get more minutes in the legs for the lads
